Our approach to wedding photography is to work in an informal, candid "documentary" style. We try to be as unobtrusive as possible, enabling you and your friends and family to enjoy every cherished moment of your most special day.

We endeavour to minimise the number of formal group shots, and aim to capture the feel, the emotions, the very essence of your wedding. Whilst a number of formal group images are essential, we always look to capture those fleeting moments that can disappear in a split-second. A laugh, a nervous glance, a shy smile, a tear of happiness.

As well as photographing people, we also like to record the details of your wedding that mean so much to you - the dress, the shoes, the flowers and the rings, just as a few examples. We don't want you to be pleased with the images - we want you to be delighted!.

Because of this we insist on meeting you prior to the wedding for an informal chat - as early as circumstances allow in fact. This meeting helps us to plan the actual day with you so that we understand exactly what you want, and it also allows us to discuss the plans for the additional shoots that are incorporated with many of our packages.

Many of our standard packages for weddings in Portugal feature either a pre-wedding "getting to know you" shoot, or a post-wedding "trash the dress" shoot. Both of these allow us to record some more intimate and personal images, away from the actual wedding itself where often the pressures of the day don't always give us as much time as we would like with the two most important people!.

How we conduct these shoots is very much down you, but essentially we would spend a couple of hours with you at a different location to the wedding - often a nice beach location can be perfect, but we will be guided by your wishes if you have other preferences. Here, you can relax and be yourselves. You can dress how you like, either completely casual, or if you prefer in your full wedding outfits.

The "trash the dress" shoot is becoming quite popular, especially for Algarve Weddings. The idea here is for us to shoot you in your wedding outfits (or sometimes with the bride in her wedding dress and the groom in something more casual); but usually at the beach or some other similar location. If the bride is not too concerned about keeping the dress in pristine condition, we can shoot in sand, water, mud, whatever takes your fancy. Again, the emphasis is on informality and fun, and very often these images make a wonderful contrast to the more formal posed images at the wedding.

A few years ago, in the good old days of film photography, a wedding photographers job was pretty simple. Shoot a few rolls of film, deliver them to the photo lab, and then sit back and wait for the finished prints. Now, in the digital age, things are very different!.

During a full day's coverage we can shoot as many as 1500-2000 images. These images then have to be edited on computer before the final portfolio can be delivered to the client. As a rough guide, for every day we spend on site with the client during the wedding we will spend around two additional days doing the editing in the "digital darkroom".

The first job is to sort through the entire collection and reduce it down to a few hundred that are worthy of detailed manipulation. Then we individually edit these images using a variety of professional software products, including Adobe Photoshop. We have several thousand euros worth of image editing software, all of which helps turn a good image from the camera into a superb image worthy of printing. This is one of the many ways that a professional photographer differs from an enthusiastic amateur: the ability to finesse an image from "OK" to WOW!".

What exactly do we do during this editing process?. Firstly, we ensure that the exposure is spot on. This may sound obvious in the days of auto-everything cameras, but even with our expensive professional equipment, we sometimes don't get the exposure absolutely spot-on!. When shooting, for example, in bright, contrasty light such as we have in the Algarve and Spain, the cameras sensors can often be fooled and end up over-exposing lighter areas of the image. The brides dress is a typical example of this. A photo taken by an amateur will often over-expose the dress and lose all the intricate details. With our professional software we can often recover these lost details.

our extensive editing service also allows us to remove or reduce those little imperfections such as wrinkles and skin blemishes, and whiten the eyes and teeth. No detail is overlooked to ensure you look your very best!.

After checking the exposure, we then move on to other adjustments such as contrast, colour saturation and sharpness. Sometimes there are elements within an image that we would like to remove. Compare the two images below - a nice shot made much better with an hour's work in Photoshop!

Many of the images often look more interesting with some kind of special effects - perhaps a simple black and white conversion, or like the images below a high-key sepia effect has been used to great effect

To make a booking we require a 15% non-refundable deposit. The reason why this is non-refundable is that once we take your booking we then will reject any further booking enquiries for the same date.

The deposit should be confirmed as soon as possible in order to secure your desired date - please contact us as early as possible to enquire about availability. The balance must be paid in full prior to delivery of all the images.

As soon as is possible after confirmation of the booking, we like to meet with the client to discuss the arrangements in more detail. This ensures that the photography can be completed as smoothly and unobtrusively as possible.
